Asking the same thing of a lot of people: “What makes money?” and then trying to understand the answer.
Here are some common answers that I’ve heard:
1. Get a book deal.
When someone tells me that my book will make someone a million dollars, I think “Oh … ok, what do I need to do to make that happen?”
A lot of people think they’re smarter than me because they wrote a book because they want to make money. Maybe, they really want to make money, but they don’t know how.
Or maybe, they know how but don’t know how. Or maybe, they’re not sure how at all.
So they make the book deal for themselves. They want to get “an answer.” Or, more likely, they want to know how it will work and whether or not they’ll get paid.
I believe that in order to make money online business, you need to have a good vision, and be able to communicate that vision to prospective customers.
It’s a lot like reading a book. Your book’s purpose is to provide a basic, fundamental understanding on the purpose and function of a business. Only your customers can determine whether it’s worth your time or effort — not your marketing departments. I’d put my money on a few things:
The book itself (whether it’s in print or electronic format) can show your vision of what you’re interested in doing.

That’s not to say that a book doesn’t need to be great to convince a consumer. But it does mean that you must do your best to provide a basic idea of your business model.
2. Write a newsletter.
I’m not going to lie. A single, static paragraph in your newsletter, or even a simple text email, can often get a subscriber.
But I guarantee it doesn’t get the subscriber to start making money from their first purchase.
