If there’s one thing we’ve learned from a number of studies that show a direct connection between mental illness and depression, it is that we should all try to avoid taking psych medication – even if we’re well-informed and competent.
So, why did we take psych medication at first?!
As we’ve written about before, antidepressants have been associated with a greater tendency to relapse. And as we’ve found, our tendency to take antidepressants in the first place is closely connected to our depression. Not only are mood stabilisers the treatment of choice when it comes to depression – as evidenced by the fact that a majority of people who seek treatment for their mental illness report seeking it after taking antidepressants.
But – and this is perhaps the biggest misconception – antidepressants are not good antidepressants.
A good antidepressant is a treatment that helps you feel better, rather than an antidepressant that makes you feel better. And, as we’ve written about before, that’s a distinction without a difference.
We also know of studies that have confirmed what you might already know: antidepressants are not effective for preventing the onset of depression and may well worsen
