How do I start a handmade furniture business? – Woodworking Business For Sale

The first step you should take is read the “How to Start a Furniture Business” article. It’s a very good place to start.

Then you must visit an furniture maker to get an idea of what their needs are, and what tools and supplies they are using. Most importantly, you must get to know how to work with their materials and equipment that they already have. You will learn, along with you, what they care about.

After that, you will need to set up a few pieces of furniture for your initial production run. Here are some suggestions:

A set of chairs and bench tops, including the frame and legs

A table

A table top with a table top shelf

Two side tables

A sofa with a top shelf (to keep the coffee and snacks from getting all over it)

A sofa with a table top shelf (to keep the coffee and snacks from getting all over it) A chair or bed set

A bed with a top shelf (to keep the coffee and snacks from getting all over it) Two or more chairs

A bench or chair, to hang a rug

A chair with a shelf and table top shelf (to keep the coffee and snacks from getting all over it)

Some pieces you would like to add to your set:

Two or more sets of bed curtains

A chair (to hang one rug and table top shelf, plus one table top shelf) for reading material

Another good start is a “workshop” in your local thrift store. You can use a piece of cardboard, or even a piece of plywood, and use a couple of old car parts to put on the back. You could even use a piece of old carpet and carpet glue instead of glue.

It’s also a good idea to have a couple of tools for the job. One is a pocket knife/scissors, and the other is a saw.

You’re going to need to get into working on what you plan on doing in your home. It may be easier and cheaper just to just get a few pieces up and working, but for beginners it’s a good idea to get familiar with what is, and is not, required for a good home production.

Finally, have a basic idea of how much material you can reasonably produce, and how many beds you can reasonably get up and running before you start getting into things that could get expensive.
