“If there were, I’d do it,” Mr. Zeevi told The Wall Street Journal, adding that he’d already started buying cameras for his children as they got older. “In five years’ time, the majority of professionals will be retirees.”
The Wall Street Journal notes that, while most professionals are working in higher-paying fields like finance and advertising, many photographers have been making a living simply by selling photographs to hobbyists for years. The industry is growing at 7% annually, according to industry estimates, and there are currently around 13,500 commercial photographers licensed by the state to take pictures for private, commercial use.
Even so, people are still turning to photography to provide some relief from the pressures of the world at large.
“It’s one more way I can be closer to my children, or to someone who needs a photo to remember them,” said Mr. Zeevi, who is based in Vienna and has been a commercial photographer for the previous 50 years. “It’s also one of the more accessible places to meet friends. I can get people to see my work with little effort.”
