Many small and medium-sized businesses are searching for photographers. But if you’re just starting out, it can still be tough.
It’s best if you learn the ropes first. And don’t forget to audition, audition! I mean audition, you know, to make sure that you’re a good enough, you know, real photographer.
You’re a great photographer? I’ll hire you immediately! But you have to show that you’re good enough.
What is your opinion of how photo shoots work?
There’s a lot of confusion out there over how the photographer shoots. And that’s understandable: there are so many different types of photography. You may have different styles, depending on how much of a photo you’re trying to capture. And that’s going to determine what lighting your camera should use, how many frames to shoot, how long you should shoot, if you really need to put down the phone and move on to the next photo shoot, if you just want to shoot pictures of a dog, and so forth.
So how do we get that process working in a reasonable way in an efficient way that doesn’t destroy the quality of what you’re doing for the client? And, I’m sure there’s a lot of confusion about that. The goal of my company is to try to make the process as streamlined as possible.
Is there one piece of advice that you would give your children, or your grandkids, when they are starting out in photography?
Well, as kids, we think that there’s no such thing as photography as it’s usually taught in school. If a kid doesn’t know that they have to do something to get that “exposure,” then they’re screwed. And, honestly, I think that the more you know about photography, in terms of the basics and the equipment, it’ll take those kids a lot longer to get into photography. You need to do a lot of research, and a lot of trial and error and experimentation to figure things out. It’s not about what you know, as much as it should be. But then they get in, and they can’t wait to do their first photo.
How big is it?
So let’s take an analogy: What’s one-hundred feet? It’s not a big deal, you know. But then you’d take ten people and go to the street: How big is that one? Ten-thousand feet? That’s a little more
