What are the odds?
My husband and I will be spending the next few months getting to know our new house’s new neighbors, including their five dogs. This will be our first visit to the neighborhood, and it’s probably going to be our last, especially since they are neighbors in another house. They may as well be cousins, because it is one thing to own a house next to somebody else’s dog, but it really is another thing to be able to spend a nice, relaxing evening with your neighbors’ dog.
In the end, though, there is no right or wrong answer to these questions. What matters is that you learn to walk these dogs, that you are able to interact positively with them, and you do it in a safe, clean environment.
The only thing is: if you choose to have your dog walk with you, you should learn to do so safely and without hurting them. That is the important takeaway from this advice piece of advice: Walk Your Dog Alone. Yes, you can walk your dog in the yard. That is your right. It is just different. It requires planning ahead to create a safe environment for your dog.
Be careful of what you do in the house. There are a number of things that will ruin your day.
1. If you have a dog, make sure it is under control when you leave the house. Even if your dog is under attack by another dog, try to leave it alone in your garage. That way you can watch it and take steps to limit the damage or death that would ensue.
2. Always pay attention when you leave the house. If you are leaving your dog at home, be sure to listen so you don’t miss what’s important. If you are leaving your dog anywhere else (like the beach), get out of your car and keep moving while waiting for your dog to leave. If your dog is outside at 2 in the morning, you might not want it to be near you at that time. Be more aware of your environment because it is your responsibility to make sure it is safe for kids and other pets.
3. Leave the door unlocked and let your dog inside if it’s not under control before you leave. A gate may close before you get there, so you will have to leave the dog outside with someone, just to be safe.
4. When leaving the house and coming back inside, do so quietly. This is the best way to help the dog.
