This is actually something that I’m really interested in. This question comes up every year for Magic Online, and people are always asking ‘who’s the best magician’ and ‘who has the most fun?’ I actually think that is a terrible question for a lot of ways, and it isn’t that I don’t enjoy playing with people. I did play with my friend and I played with a great friend, Steve Boggs, and we both enjoy playing with each other. The problem though is that when you have to ask a question like this about someone, you really have no idea if you’re going to hear about it on Facebook or an online podcast or whatever. So I think a lot of people who ask that question, they might as well not do it. It is the same thing if you tell me that I’m good at tennis or golf. If I ask you and you don’t know what you’re talking about, it’s just as awkward. I don’t really care, though, if you think I played my best Magic online last weekend, or if you think the next time I play I’m going to be better. If you think it’s a good idea to ask me that I think is a terrible question for me to ask, fine. You can have that opinion and you can have that opinion if you really want. But I would rather talk with you and learn about you, or I want to learn about you, if you’re the person I’m talking to.
When people are trying to talk to me, I will sometimes make a comment about how someone thinks I’m good at Magic, or I think I’m good at Magic. I really don’t care if they want to talk about who is the best, or if I would have a fun time playing a tournament with them. If I get bored, I will just leave, because I don’t really need to learn about you.
I mean, if you want to learn about me, do it in the comments on this article and if someone would like to talk to me, do so in the comments here. Also, there are other places where people will have interesting comments, or maybe we can do some magic together or something.
Q: When you are working on a deck, do you have to think about what the most powerful cards from Shards of Alara are?
If I’m playing this deck in a tournament, I don’t really have to think about it like that, because it’s always going to
