Is coaching a good career? – Life Coaching Business License

Not always. When it comes to sports-entertainment careers, however, those who go for it should be happy. Even the most famous sports coaches can have a bad night; in that case, there’s a certain level of frustration that comes with coaching a loser. If that makes me an ungrateful person, what am I, a coach?

A lot of coaches make a lot of money—well, some people do—but that should not determine whether they should be successful. For every player and coach who makes plenty, there’s another who’s just scraping by. The truth is, a lot of successful coaches don’t have jobs. Not every coach, in fact, will have a full-time job in the future. The number of coaches who make a good deal of money, I would imagine, is far lower than the number who make a decent living, and most of these coaches will become teachers, executives or businessmen. But even some of the smartest, most motivated people I know, I would argue, make a lot of money.

It’s not that smart people always make more money than the smart ones, of course. Many successful entrepreneurs manage to make enough money that they don’t have to worry about living on their salary. But the fact of the matter is that the average amount of money a successful coach makes is much higher than the average amount of money a successful entrepreneur makes.

Let’s try to find out what that is (I’ll explain why this is useful later). In the current age, the average amount of money coaches make is probably something like $1 million or $2 million or $5 million or $8 million. The median is probably something like around $50,000 for full-time NFL coaches; so a coach who makes less than $50,000 a year is not likely to make much by comparison. But, given what is a highly competitive athletic-training industry and all of the benefits that come with it, there are likely more good coaches than bad ones in every field in which coaches work.

The one variable that will determine the value of a coach over the years is simply his success or failure in building a winner. Is he successful from day one in the business, or is he lucky a season or two and then he has to work twice as hard next time? I’m sure coaches often tell me that they have not done as well as they had hoped because their coaches didn’t provide the right message.

Of course, coaches’ decisions
