How much money can I make teaching?
How do I make money teaching to adults?
The answer to every one of these questions will be no, and the answer to how much money you will make on this is likely to depend on the area you are interested in teaching and the type of teaching you do. Whether you teach in the city or in rural areas in the US, whether you want to be a traditional public school teacher in the state or a private school, whether you are a teacher, parent, or student, every situation that seems to work for some people does not necessarily work for everyone. Your work, and the work of thousands of other teachers, is not an easy or obvious question to answer.
I often meet very good people who are doing things that are very difficult and hard. Sometimes you get great teachers and sometimes you get someone who is not good with kids. And when the work gets complicated and hard to explain, the great teachers often struggle to get their message out. There are many different reasons for this. There are many different teachers. There are too many things to cover in a single blog.
But at the same time, my advice about how to make money on teaching is not one of simple formulas. It is not an answer that everyone will be able to do. And it is not one that only happens to those who are very well-versed in the field of teaching and who have access to some resources.
To take up teaching, many people are already teaching at the minimum level. Some are a bit older than others. Some have less than enough experience. Some have fewer children. To become a teacher takes time and effort and commitment and some people can’t afford it. If you don’t have time or you find it really hard to dedicate yourself to this work, the only answer you really have is to look for work that may come along. If it looks like someone who is working on it might have time for you, ask, “how did they manage it?” and see if they had the right resources or training or skills.
You are not a teacher overnight. You have a lot of work to do. And you have to develop the tools and skills to figure it out, too. But many people have done a lot of the hard work. Many have been teaching their whole lives, or even longer, and just need work along the way, too. And what they really needed was an education.
