This is one of the biggest differences because of the difference of material. If the bamboo gauge was less than 1/4 of the violin length it would not be very important.
Viola strings of this type cannot stretch a lot, so are much easier to control and are strong. There is less variation in the string gauge. This makes the vibrato more easily controlled and also helps to play the way you want.
Viola is made of thick strings which allows the strings to be more flexible. This allows the instrument to move in your hands while playing.
Length
Viola are a long instrument. The length is about 11 cm (4″) with the string being approximately 14 cm (5″) from the fret. Therefore, to play long violas you will need a larger violin. This size is called “long-arm-violin”. A small violin is just the right length when the violin is held in a proper position and playing.
The long-arm-violin comes in black, silver and red colours. Red violin has a red string, black does not but does have two black strings.
Viola strings are about 14 cm (5″) in length. This means if you have a violin that is 30 cm (12″) or greater and you play a long-arm-violin you will feel the strength of it. The strength is in its sound. The strength of violin in your hands
