I love being in a band. It’s like a family. People treat you like an adult, and that’s a good feeling, especially to be a musician who has some kind of music career. And the band is fun. I have a lot of friends who have bands, and that’s awesome. But I can just hear things happening, so I’m in a band.
How did you end up in a band?
I was a drummer. My first band would do everything with a guitar. So that’s my first taste of music. I was in New Wave, but they had one guitar and one drummer. That’s all we heard. Did you start out with the guitar and just started playing with different instruments?
I got to meet a lot of famous artists before, during and after “Nostalgia”, like The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, Frank Zappa, The Velvet Underground. I’m just an old hand — I played the saxophone for a lot of ’50s jazz. It was really just about the music. That’s what I did, for a while, until I got bored. When I went to music school, it turned out it was about music, not art. But after I played in a lot of rock bands, I started to experiment a
