I will probably never play classical violin professionally, but I may play one more of the more challenging violin types in my early life. I am looking forward to teaching a few young artists how to play a particular style with my orchestra.

How will your new book be different from all the other books on violin, and how will it tie in so nicely with your book?

I have written several books about violin and I can say that, if anything, my book, Violin-The Journey, will be the most similar to a traditional approach. I have been working on it for three years now and I am very excited to share it with my readers.

You have been described as “quiet”. But you seem to get on well. How have you been able to do this?

I am very pleased to be able to collaborate with a writer who I have been working with on a memoir for over a decade – I would describe myself as “quiet”. My relationship to the violin in the way I play is not so different from your typical jazz guitarist working with his band of colleagues.

What is the best advice you have ever been given about playing the violin?

The best advice I have received is what I will use my knowledge of professional players to provide.

What other book would you like to read and if so, what is the title?

I have had my eye on a certain book for seven years and now, after getting tired of working with some of my former collaborators, I feel ready to say, “Enough,” in case they ask me:

“Who writes good books about your career?”

It has to be a book on the importance of personal development and what it means for the violin to be a unique instrument not merely another instrument that can be played by any player. This may be the most challenging book I ever write.
