The answer varies (sometimes much less than half an hour), so use your discretion. This is a great time to try out new voiceovers, the best way to do that is by recording clips on your MP3, and uploading it directly with your YouTube channel. Once the clip of the voice change is done, you can upload your clip again and start getting your voice checked and perfected with each new voice.
Where can I find more information about voice? There is a long list of great resources on VoiceoverInfo.org.
Voice Over Tips
Voice Over Tips:
Be consistent. The person you are voicing is going to be different every time. Try and avoid using the same voice over for more than 3-4 seconds. (Some people like using the same voice for years and then changing it once every three years or so.)
You are using any of the following when you can’t decide which voice sounds better or more right?
Stuck in a rut? Don’t use the same accent (or voice quality) from one moment to the next. Try something a bit less formal or slightly different from the moment of your last audition.
Have new words and sentences ready? Get your voice checked. Once you’ve been on the show for a while they may have developed their vocabulary – make sure you remember it.
Don’t worry about being the perfect voice, just try to give yourself as much of an arc as you can.
The more time you spend working out what you think or what you feel when you say the lines, the more you’ll get used to it, so give yourself time.
You can only practice with your voice if your eyes remain on the screen. If you’re recording the voice without being in front of a computer, leave the camera on.
Once you’ve been on the show for a while they may have developed their vocabulary. Remember, that was the only way they knew they were a “real” voice over artist!
