This is not something you learn or learn in a flash.
Your singing voice is something you create and mould and you learn it day by day and each song and each lesson is a lesson that will have you progressing in this area. So, you must practice, practice, practice.
But you can’t learn from a textbook. You have to get out there and practice and practice. You must be able to perform at a professional standard in order to gain real confidence from your professional singing voice.
To be able to do the necessary practice, you can’t just rely on music books. You have to look what you have listening to on the radio or watching television or in the cinema. These are the media that have the best ability to teach you.
This is where I find my great teacher I met at my academy. He is an engineer who works in a technology company and he is someone who has been studying and having lessons with the master, Mr. Shabir Mahmood. He is the only person that truly understands what it takes in order to attain success.
As well, my mentor Mr. Shabir Mahmood is someone that understands the importance of being a proper musician. He is someone who has been able to work with top international musicians and he has the ability to really give you advice based on what you hear and see on stage.
I have heard that he said that you must learn how to harmonise. If you can’t harmonise I would say that you are learning the wrong thing.
As well, if you don’t practice, you also won’t practise. If you practice for 15 minutes three times a day, you are not practising. If you do it for 20 minutes three times a day, it doesn’t matter.
It’s like my music teacher, who had a son, who could also sing because he played the guitar and piano. He told me to practise when he used to come to practice. (My teacher) used to come from time to time and watch me with interest. He would observe and watch because, I had the ability to sing like him.
To be able to learn how to harmonise, it takes time and hard work and I believe it takes time. It’s better to have someone like Mr. Shabir who has been studying with professional singers and he knows exactly what he is talking about.
So for me it’s a case of the two working together rather than me having another
