What is the new DHHS program? – Government Grants For Disabled Housing

The Department of Health and Human Services is establishing a new program in 2013 to educate, certify, and license primary care physicians, as well as pharmacists and emergency room physicians in compliance with Section 1066 of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) . Beginning in 2013, the program will be available statewide. This program is designed to encourage primary care physicians to provide patient care in the most cost-effective manner possible.

Who should apply for certification?

Qualified physicians, pharmacists, and emergency room physicians will be eligible for certification under the new program. Applicants may be any of the following:

Physicians – Registered in the state’s Physician Assistant program.

Pharmacist – Registered in the state’s Pharmacist’s Medical Council (PMMC) certified program.

Emergency room physicians – Registered in the same program as physicians.

Emergency room physicians will provide health care in both a full- and part-time capacity.

How does the program work?

A physician, pharmacy technician, or emergency room physician will be assigned to complete an online application before registering for certification. Each physician, pharmacy technician, or emergency room physician will have the opportunity to apply for certification and submit the completed application to a physician or pharmacy technician, with a physician’s or pharmacy technician’s signature. Physicians and pharmacists will then receive an initial statement from each other and will be given the opportunity to comment during this period. Physician/pharmacist/emergency room physician applications will be processed in one of two ways: (1) a paper application must be filed electronically, or (2) a computer-generated application must be filed directly with the state. The state will require that all certification requests be placed on the same, complete application for the physician/pharmacist/emergency room physician program.

How will certification be granted?

A physician, pharmacy technician, or emergency room physician, and each applicable physician’s, pharmacy technician’s, and emergency room physician’s applicable, must complete a short essay on their certification. This essay contains specific information about their experience and knowledge regarding the provision of health care through their practice. The state will review and approve each submission. If a physician, pharmacy technician, or emergency room physician, or each physician’s, pharmacy technician’s, and emergency room physician’s applicable has a satisfactory completion score in the online application, they will be granted their credential.

How long does certification last?
