You have to check the IRS website; the form you will get from the IRS is not for grants. It will require you to verify that your organization is for-profit and for tax purposes.
How do I become a 501c3 nonprofit? Before you start, you will have to provide the IRS with a list of charitable organizations you want to be a part of. It will list your organization’s name, what it does, and if that organization is a 501c3 (see the question above). You should also get a letter stating that the organization qualifies for an IRS 501(c)(3) certification and that you have been granted tax-exempt status. The letter should give you an explanation of the process and what to expect. If you want to become a tax-exempt nonprofit from a non-profit organization, read up on how to do that to learn about how to apply for this certification. The IRS lists some other requirements for you. If you are unsure about how to become a tax-exempt nonprofit, contact someone at the IRS’ Exempt Organizations Division and they will answer your question. Be prepared for a phone call and/or an email with a specific explanation — but if you do get a response, you can usually tell them more about how to become a 501c3, including getting a letter from the IRS saying your organization is for-profit.
How do I verify my organization is for-profit? You can obtain a certification from the IRS saying that your organization is for-profit and that you have met the IRS requirements for being a 501c3. Or, you can get a letter from the IRS stating your organization is a 501c3 and that you have been granted tax-exempt status. (It is probably not a bad idea to get a letter and verify your organization is a 501c3 before you start trying to start a non-profit!) To learn more, see Verify Your Organization Is For-Profit.
How do I start a non-profit corporation? For-profit corporation applications are also very easy to obtain from your local IRS agents, at least when it comes to the part about obtaining 501c3 certification. You must prove that you do not want a public benefit corporation or that the work of your corporation was not in the public interest. The IRS doesn’t care at all about whether or not your organization is a for-profit corporation. It just wants to see that you were granted tax-exempt status. If you have an email you can send them from your
