How can I get a free grant without paying it back? – Alberta Government Loans For Small Businesses

There is no fee for your free grant; we will simply send it after we have been paid. If you want to get a grant in the future, you can always ask us to send yours to you at any time.

What happens if I don’t like my free grant?

You can pay us back by contacting us. However, if we don’t send the grant to you, you may be liable to pay for the services of any contractors who use your grant.

What happens if I already have a grant that I do not want to use?

You can contact us if you can’t keep your grant. We can’t send more than one free grant in any one year. We will also refuse to grant more than one grant to a person with the same first name or surname.

Can I get reimbursed for my free grant?

Yes – you can get reimbursed if you use the grant for something we have asked you to do. For example, you can use our computer for a programme you have already signed up for.

What if I’m not sure if I want to get something for free?

You may have to decide whether you want to get the benefits, or not. You have to give us as much information as we’d like to see about you, from your history and income records.

Please note:

If we receive the following details, we will only accept you for the free grant:

your name (and/or surname)

your date of birth (and/or address)

the age you are living at the moment.

You can ask us to reduce you payments if you think you’re not living up to your entitlements.

If we give you a reduction, the reduction won’t be immediate. The reduction could last some months, or years. It won’t affect your income tax or National Insurance payment or payments to housing benefit. We won’t deduct a reduction from your bank account until the income support payments begin to be deducted from your bank account. You can ask us to reduce your benefit by as much as we’ve suggested (this applies in both cases), except where your reduction comes from the difference between where you live and your tax threshold.

If you don’t qualify for the reduced rate, you may still get your full benefits. You could receive an income support payment as a result of the reduction
