How do I learn a dance routine? – Amazing Belly Dance

1. Have an idea of what you want to do

We start with a good “idea” of what we want to be a dancer, and build around it. You have to focus your practice time on this “idea”, so get some friends who can offer you feedback from experience, and a general feeling of what works for you.

2. Take it slow

The real world always moves fast. You want to have a clear idea of how to do your movements, but also not lose your breath, which is very important to have when you’re moving quickly.

3. Do a dance test before class

After you’ve got a good idea whether what you’re doing is doing well, or if something needs to be improved, you can start to take lessons. This can be through a video or a video and a book. I prefer to do lessons in person first, so it lets me be more direct and to give you a feedback about whether you’re doing “right” or not.

4. Make it the best way you know how

You have to change your mind about anything, especially about a new move. You need to look back at what you liked the first time you saw something that didn’t make sense to you. If you’re dancing for the first time, ask yourself “What should be new? What could I do better?”

5. Make a video

I use Youtube, which I’ve seen the world over, but also the new wave of free videos which you can sign up to as a member. If you’re using a PC, you can use VLC. There’s no need to use Macs at all, as we have some amazing apps for Macs already. They’re quite affordable and you get unlimited online access so it’s all about the convenience, which is nice.

6. Get free clothes

9. Watch a youtube video

The best videos on the internet are the ones you can really watch again and again. When we’re doing a dance it’s not the best thing for your footwork. It’s also much harder to remember it than a routine like the standard 3 or 4 steps.

10. Start a YouTube dance channel

Most of the professional dancers in the USA use YouTube, because it’s
