This question has been asked by some bodybuilders over the years.
I often hear people say “I do more belly dancing”, but don’t know why.
Why would you be interested in the belly?
When you first learn of belly dancing, you’ll have the impression that there are muscles that are attached to the belly.
However, a lot of women who do belly dancing want to be able to dance with more freedom. The belly isn’t a place that is used to being held captive.
This is a common misconception.
This article explains how belly dancing is really a way of stretching out and relaxing the groin muscles, that can be effective for many women who are looking to improve the flexibility of their hip flexors.
How to Get Gains With Belly Dancing
Belly dancing isn’t just for bodybuilding.
You don’t need to have a full sized body to dance with it as it doesn’t require the use of any weights and is easy to practice.
In fact, you can start any exercise where you have a lot of belly hanging out.
Here’s a link to an article I wrote that explains belly dancing techniques.
You can easily practice with a partner but as I’ll tell you, this isn’t the place for that.
Instead, learn how to dance to a pattern and take the feeling of freedom into your own hands with every step you take.
Here are some exercises that go hand in hand and will make your dancing a lot more enjoyable:
This simple movement is probably the most vital to belly dancing.
You want your dancing to follow the glows on your stomach. This is where you can really feel the muscle stretching.
You don’t need to do it in a complicated way, like I did in the pictures above.
Just feel your muscles and move towards the centre of the glows one at a time.
This is a great exercise as there’s nothing hard about the movement. Your back muscles, glutes and hamstrings will be working hard, so you don’t need to worry about getting sore in it.
When you do it one at time, you’ll have your stomach glows moving like a magnet, and will have a greater sense of freedom to move.
This was my method of dancing to this pattern for the entire year and a half I trained at the gym and I still do this exercise
